Baje Vacations

Most people know me to be very professional, unemotional most of the time and very pragmatic.

Most of my friends, many of whom I've known for over a decade would tell you that I'm a tough cookie.

However, it pains me that in these tough economic times that Barbadians are still finding the money to go shopping to Miami, seemingly aloof of the fact that at least one person they know within six degrees of separation may be on the verge of losing their job due to the global economic down turn.

Perhaps it's because the cost of a flight to Miami is suddenly just as cheap (or expensive) as visiting one of our neighbouring Caribbean islands.

Who knows.

Perhaps it's just an annual trip and there are great savings to be had when you stock up on things you may need throughout 2009 that are likely to be ten times the cost in Barbados.

Who knows.

Then I thought for a minute that maybe they don't have enough of an incentive or motivation to stay at home and holiday or take a staycation as the term is now known.

If you are interested in playing your part in helping to keep our tourism industry bouyant during these worsening times, then you are invited to join the Baje Vacations group on Facebook.

By joining you promise to become a tourist in your own island and must spend at least one night in a hotel or guest house, villa, what have you.

Check out the group for great vacation ideas and the latest updates on the impact of the financial crisis on the tourism industry in Barbados and abroad.

The group is also open to tourism service providers so feel free to post your event, attraction, restaurant or hotel link and join in the discussions, etc.

Cheers!
