As promised, I'm happy to share any jazz news on my blog as long as you guys keep sending it. It's been a bit quiet I know and I imagine that most folk might be tuning into Trinidad's Carnival right about now. However, Jazz is still very much in the air and I'm pleased to share with you what I know of. Let me caution that I am in no way affiliated with any of these promoters and therefore urge you to contact them at the numbers provided at all time to confirm the events are still on target.
Having said that, I'm happy to tell you that in the midst of all that is musically commercial, we still have some events that will be playing real, real music.
I've Got Rhythm!

Make it a date this Sunday, February 15, 2009 @ 6 p.m. at the Barbados Museum when local chanteuse, Rosemary Phillips, takes to the stage with the Ebe Gilkes Trio in I Got Rhythm!

Swan Song a la Hilton

Kellie Cadogan is going to give her final performance tonight at the Grille Restaurant of the Barbados Hilton so this is your last chance to see your daughter of all that jazz in action at that venue! Dinner is served from 7 - 9 p.m. and I stress 'at the venue' because she is promising to be relocating. I'll share that information with you as soon as I know.
Ting Tong
One of my sweetest memories of seeing a live jazz performance was back in 2000 (I think) when I attended the world steel pan competition in Trinidad. Steel orchestras are known to bring immense creativity and musicality to jazz! So mark your calendar for on Thursday February 19, 2009, local pannist, David 'Ziggy' Walcott and his band Lock Down will be doing a live performance during the evening concerts of the 2009 Holetown Festival.
Dubbed the 'Seaside Theatre', this free concert show starts at 7.30 p.m. at the Surfside Restaurant (behind the police station) and will also feature the Wilson Hill Folk Group and the Red Men.
